2014 Movement Education Week
Each year, a week is set aside in February for teachers in Waldorf education (and in other private schools) to attend teachers’ conferences. For movement educators, these conferences can be rich sources of spiritual and pedagogical renewal and networking with colleagues around the globe. This year, we launch a new movement for movement educators themselves, a conference in sunny Southern California, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, at the beautiful Waldorf School of Orange County. Bring your families, send them to the beach and come move, play, and dance with us.
This is a return visit for our keynote presenters, Dr. Edmund Knighton
and Valerie Baadh
, who presented the Adolescents and Risk
conference (with eurythmist Dean Pollard) in February, 2008. Edmund and Valerie return this year with two programs, “All About Balls”
– ball games and activities through the grades, and “Swing Dance, Waltz, and Other Fine Dances”
– for upper grades through high school and beyond. Jeff Kellem
joins Valerie as teaching partner in the “lead and follow” aspects of partner dancing, along with Lise Baadh, founder of Seattle’s free high school social dance program Dance-It!
Interest groups will also meet in the mornings and evenings for such topics as:
New Initiatives in Tournaments: 5th grade PACT Model, 6th grade Global Games, 7th grade Explorers Tournament (with Justin Ganz)
Introduction to Spacial Dynamics® (with Heather Lanier)
Curriculum Planning (with Valerie Baadh)
Movement for Early Childhood (with Heather Lanier)
Southern California movement teachers’ meeting (with Brad Holm)
Atomic Ballroom – Lindy Hop evening (with Lise Baadh and Jeff Kellem)
Have a personal interest or topic to present? Let us know.
The conference week extends six days, Sunday through Friday. Participants may elect to take both 3-day programs, or just one. Register here.
(And, for those of you reading this far, the 2015 Conference is already being planned. Stay tuned for Circus Arts, Gymnastics, and Parcour
